Liverpool’s Courting return with Pause At You, the electrifying lead single from their forthcoming third album, Lust for Life, Or: ‘How To Thread The Needle And Come Out The Other Side To Tell The Story’. With its infectious blend of dance-punk energy and sharp lyrical wit, this track reaffirms the band’s place as one of the UK’s most exciting indie prospects.

From the opening notes, Pause At You bursts to life with razor-edged guitars and a rhythm section that commands movement. Sean Murphy-O’Neill’s sardonic delivery strikes a perfect balance between night-out euphoria and introspective paranoia, capturing the fleeting highs and deep undertones of modern hedonism. The track is as playful as it is polished, layered with clever references and self-aware quirks that have become the band’s hallmark.

The song’s sonic identity feels like a natural evolution for Courting. While their previous work often flirted with irony and elaborate theatricality, Pause At You takes a more direct and distilled approach, throwing its punchlines and hooks straight at the listener without hesitation. The frenetic instrumentation mirrors the energy of a packed dancefloor, but there’s an edge of tension that grounds the track in something darker and more introspective. It’s an anthem for the night, as thrilling as it is unsettling, perfectly capturing the chaotic joy of youthful abandon.

If this single is any indication, Lust for Life promises to be a leaner, more immediate follow-up to New Last Name. Stripping back the grand theatrics of their sophomore effort, Courting opt for a direct approach without sacrificing their experimental edge. Tracks like Pause At You highlight their ability to merge genre-defying ambition with a raw, visceral energy tailor-made for live performance.

The album is set to release on 14th March 2024, and pre-orders are now live here. Following the release, the band will embark on a nine-date UK tour:
