Halifax’s Ellur shines brightly with her latest single, Yellow Light, a bittersweet yet uplifting indie-pop gem. As the third track unveiled from her forthcoming EP, God Help Me Now (pre-order here), this song highlights Ellur’s knack for capturing vulnerability and wrapping it in anthemic, feel-good melodies.

From the first note, Yellow Light is captivating. A wash of dreamy guitars and rhythmic synths sets the tone, but it’s Ellur’s voice that carries the track to emotional heights. Her delivery is tender yet assured, channelling the confessional style of Taylor Swift with the atmospheric punch of The 1975. The track delves into themes of self-acceptance, as Ellur sings about embracing the parts of herself she once resisted. It’s introspective without being heavy, striking a balance that resonates universally.

The highlight here is the chorus—a euphoric, arms-in-the-air moment that’s as cathartic as it is catchy. Ellur expertly contrasts the reflective verses with a soaring hook that could light up any festival crowd. It’s a sound that feels both personal and expansive, proof of her evolving artistry.

This is Ellur at her most confident, blending heartfelt lyricism with slick, radio-ready production. While not reinventing the indie-pop wheel, Yellow Light executes its mission flawlessly, earning a solid 8/10. With her SXSW debut on the horizon and an impressive run of live shows, Ellur is staking her claim as one of the UK’s rising stars.
